Caitlin Clark is back on the court, fully recovered, and ready to make her mark with Team USA. The Indiana Fever star recently joined the USA Basketball Women’s National Team training camp at Duke University for her first senior national team experience. She shared insights about her comeback, her experiences with injuries, and her focus on basketball in an exclusive interview.
After missing time due to injuries, Clark admitted she was a bit nervous stepping back onto the court. “The moment I touched the basketball while warming up, I felt comfortable,” she said. “I’ve worked so hard and haven’t taken a break since the WNBA season ended. Being out there and seeing my body respond was a really satisfying feeling.” She credited the training staff and player development team for their support throughout her rehab.
Reflecting on her time with USA Basketball, Clark described the honor of representing her country. “I’ve been cut from junior national teams before, and I’ve also played for them. Playing for Team USA is the biggest honor you can have,” she said. Clark highlighted how the program teaches players not only about basketball but also about leadership, teamwork, and the pride of representing the United States.
The training camp also features younger players, many of whom Clark already knows from junior national teams, college, or the WNBA. “There’s a comfort in familiarity, but we’re all very competitive. Everyone here pushes each other to bring their best,” she explained.
Looking back on her career, Clark spoke about how injuries have shaped her perspective. “Being hurt is isolating, but it taught me how to take care of my body, be patient, and support my teammates. Leadership isn’t just about what you do on the court; it’s also about checking in on teammates when they’re struggling.”
Regarding professional opportunities outside the WNBA, including the new Project B League, Clark is focused on her current path. “I plan to play in the WNBA. The growth and investment in women’s basketball are incredible, and I’m proud to see people supporting the sport. My focus right now is on basketball and Team USA.”
Clark also shared her first impressions of Coach Kara Lawson. “Coach Kara brings energy and a competitive spirit that motivates everyone in the gym. This is my first time working with her, and her presence pushes us to bring our best every day.”
Reuniting with longtime teammate Cameron Brink was another highlight for Clark. “It’s amazing to see Cam again. We’ve known each other for almost nine years, and it’s incredible to continue this journey together.” While she joked about golf, she confirmed that basketball remains her priority.
The USA Basketball Women’s National Team training camp features a mix of veteran Olympians, including Kahleah Copper, Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum, and Jackie Young, alongside ten players making their senior camp debuts, including Caitlin Clark, Lauren Betts, Cameron Brink, Paige Bueckers, and Angel Reese.
